Rail station opening put on hold
The new £12 million rail station at Southend Airport is waiting to be given the green light from the Government before it can be officially opened.
Transport bosses hope that passengers will be able to travel from the station to the Olympic site in Stratford, east London in about 45 minutes.
But its opening has been delayed and passengers are having to make do with a free shuttle bus service for now, which takes them from the airport to Rochford train station, about 10 minutes away.
An official opening date has not been set yet but it is expected to open in the next couple of weeks.
The airport's owner Stobart is currently discussing the final timetabled routes with the rail network and operator.
A spokesman for Stobart said: "We are going through the motions of getting the trains timetabled with the rail network and operator. There is no set date for when it will open."
