Rail strikes signal more disruption
Further rail strikes have been announced following the breakdown of talks between rail signalling workers and Network Rail.
Following a row about career progression members of the Rail Maritime and Transport union, based at the West of Scotland centre in Glasgow, will stage two 24-hour walkouts on February 14 and March 2.
The dispute followed claims by the union that Network Rail were failing to uphold a long-standing practice where by vacant resident positions are offered to senior staff members.
RMT general secretary Bob Crow said: "RMT has tried to reach a negotiated settlement to this unilateral ripping-up of a local arrangement but unfortunately the management have refused to see sense and have failed to engage with us seriously since the strike action over Christmas."
This latest round of strikes follows a 72-hour walkout staged by the signaling workers over Christmas last year, which caused significant disruption to services.
