Rail strikes announced for Heathrow
Holidaymakers and business travellers using the Heathrow Express rail link could face disruptions due to industrial strikes, it has been announced.
A dispute over a driver who had been fired and the suspension of another staff member saw the Rail Maritime and Transport (RMT) union announce the strike dates.
Walkouts will last 24 hours on 26 February and 11 March, and on 3 March a 48-hour strike will take place on the services between Heathrow Airport and central London. The strikes will involve around 250 staff.
A Heathrow Express spokesperson said the driver had been fairly dismissed in line with union policy.
However, the RMT union said Zahid Majid's employment was terminated over a small mistake to which he held up his hands.
The Heathrow Express spokesperson said the organisation remains "open for discussions" with the RMT union.
