Met line is worst tube for delays
The London Underground's Metropolitan line was responsible for more than a quarter of all total refunds handed back to travellers in 2011.
Delays on the Metropolitan line led Transport for London to hand back £432,137 after over 100,000 journeys were delayed on the line last year. The figures were obtained by the International Business Times UK and show that commuters on the Metropolitan have the toughest time in terms of delays.
The Met line is currently undergoing a signals upgrade but travellers may have to put up with the delays for a while yet as the work is not due to be completed until 2018. The refurbishment project has been delayed after the engineering firm contracted to complete the job, Metronet, went bankrupt in 2008.
In defence of the line a Transport for London spokeswoman said the Metropolitan line depends upon some of the oldest infrastructure and equipment on the entire tube network.
However, disgruntled passengers had to put up with delays across the whole network last year, with over 400,000 refunds claimed on London Underground journeys in 2011.
