Rail delays on eve of Olympics
The Heathrow Express had to be suspended on the eve of the Olympics due to a fire at West Ealing station, resulting in severe delays on what was predicted to be the airport's busiest day.
A platform fire at the station forced the rail service, which runs from Heathrow Airport to London Paddington, to close.
The airport was expecting a record breaking 125,000 passengers on Thursday, including 2,000 people from the Games Family, which is made up of athletes, coaches, officials and the media.
Heathrow Express said that the fire caused severe delays on Thursday morning, but services have now resumed.
A BAA spokesman said: "The Heathrow Express and Heathrow Connect services experienced minor delays this morning following a fire at a platform of West Ealing station. Services are now back up and running.
