We are now just days away from the biggest wedding of the year, when Prince Harry will marry Meghan Markle at St George’s Chapel in Windsor, but there’s plenty to enjoy even if you’re not going to be in London on May 19th.
Kent is embracing the occasion and there are ways to get involved with the festivities across the county. If you happen to be called Harry or Meghan (or the more commonly spelled Megan), then you can enjoy free entry into Hever Castle on the day itself.
Harries and Megans will be able to enjoy the 13th-century castle and romantic gardens along with other guests without missing out on viewing the wedding. The ceremony will be shown live on a large TV screen in the moat restaurant from noon.
The union flag will be flying atop the castle and visitors will be able to enjoy the same flavours as the royal guests, with lemon and elderflower cupcakes on sale. There’s sure to be a party atmosphere at Hever, as all eyes turn to Windsor.
Another delicious treat that Harry and Meghan’s friends and family are set to enjoy is wine from the Chapel Down Winery in Kent. This is the same wine producer that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge picked for their 2011 wedding, bringing flavours of the county to the royals.
Among the selection is likely to be the winery’s Bacchus white wine, which is priced at an affordable £13. Meanwhile, the classic sparkling Brut would be the perfect way to toast the couple for just £24.
The winery in Tenterden is open to the public and offers guided tours, making it the perfect place to indulge in some royal wedding fun. Or you could just grab a bottle and join in one of the many street parties that will be taking place all over the country.
Gravesend Borough Market will be having its own Royal Wedding Party, with activities including crown making, cupcake decorating and face painting. There will be a big screen showing the wedding and a prince and princess fancy dress competition judged by the mayor.
Get everyone to and from your preferred venue in Kent for the royal wedding by booking a coach. This way, you don’t need to worry about how many cars to take and who’s driving; everybody will be transported home after the celebrations with no hassle at all.
