The 2017 Nitto ATP Finals will take place at the O2 Arena on November 12th-19th, with some of the world’s top players set to play in singles and doubles tournaments.
The competition will offer $8 million (£5.8 million) in prize money and has been contested in major cities around the world, dating back to the 1970 Masters in Tokyo. Only the top eight singles and doubles players are chosen for the event, with rankings decided on performance throughout the season.
At the moment, Rafael Nadal sits on top of the rankings after winning his third US Open championship, while Roger Federer, Alexander Zverev, Dominic Thiem, Stan Wawrinka, Grigor Dimitrov, Marin Cilic and Pablo Carreno Busta complete the top eight.
However, with several ATP events still to be played, the final eight for the tournament will not be determined until after the Paris Masters on October 30th.
Last year, the world number one ranking was on the line in the final, when Andy Murray defeated Novak Djokovic to win his first ever season-ending crown. In the process, he became only the 17th player in history to finish as number one in the rankings.
Chris Kermode, ATP executive chairman and president, said: “Last year’s spectacular finish to the season at The O2 will live long in the memory.”
Whether we will have such a nail-biting end to the season remains to be seen, but attendees are sure to see some world-class tennis action.
What is the best way to reach the capital?
Visitors from all over Europe come to London for the ATP Finals, which can lead to heavy congestion on the roads and high prices on the rail network.
As well as being expensive, train carriages may not even have spare seats if you book your trip on the day, forcing you to sit uncomfortably in a corridor or even stand.
However, there is an alternative. Coach services are available to take you to the capital for great value prices and provide guaranteed seats, allowing you to sit back, relax and enjoy the journey.
You could book a return trip on the day, or make it a weekend trip by travelling down on the Friday and enjoying some of the other excellent attractions available in London.
Perhaps visit the West End, or get started on your Christmas shopping. Whatever you want to do, it’s easy to find coaches that can work around your individual needs.
