Cheer on England at the Women’s Hockey World Cup

The Women’s Hockey World Cup is the most spectated event in female sport and this summer it is being held in London. Making use of the purpose-built Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, it will run from July 21st to August 5th and you could be there to see the action unfold.

It’s the Netherlands who will be defending their title after beating the competition to lift the World Cup in the Hague in 2014. They are one of just four teams that have won the trophy since it was founded in 1974, with Argentina, Germany and Australia snapping at their heels.

England will be hoping to join their ranks as they field a strong team on home turf. New Zealand, China and the USA will also be ones to watch, as experts reveal they are in good shape and will pose a threat to the teams they meet in the tournament.

Hockey is an exciting game for spectators, as it is fast-paced and unpredictable, with as many as 60 substitutions from a single team in any given game. Each side is made up of 11 players, with each game taking place over four quarters of 15 minutes a piece.

A total of 16 teams will play in the World Cup and England have been drawn in Pool B, along with the USA, India and Ireland. Their first match will be on July 21st, when they are due to play India. This will be followed by the USA on July 25th and Ireland on July 29th.

Whether or not England make it to the final, the ultimate match of the tournament will be played on August 5th and is bound to be an exciting game. The play-off for third place will take place on the same day, just a few hours earlier.

Adult tickets start at just £10 and children’s tickets from £1, meaning you can have a fun family day out without breaking the bank. It’s a great way to introduce the kids to international sport of a high standard and get them involved in the atmosphere with fellow fans.
