June 2014
As part of the Tour's three-day visit to Britain, London will welcome this major cycle event on Monday 7th July. The event will have huge numbers of people lining the Capital's streets to see some of the greatest names in cycling competing for the famous yellow jersey.
The third stage of the Tour will start in Cambridge city centre at around midday, before heading into Essex and Greater London before finally reaching Central London.
The cyclists will ride through Leamouth, Poplar, Wapping and Shadwell. Once past the Tower of London the route will take them along the Thames, towards Lower and Upper Thames Streets and Victoria Embankment, before riding past the Houses of Parliament, around St James's Park and finishing on The Mall.
It is anticipated that this event will have a massive impact on traffic flow through Central London and Canary Wharf with the following roads being closed from 10am to 6pm; Victoria Embankment, Lower and Upper Thames Street, Byward Street, Tower Hill and Limehouse Link Tunnel. The following bridges across the Thames will also be closed; Westminster Bridge, Southwark Bridge and Tower Bridge.
We expect that our AM commuter services will be able to complete our normal route in full on the morning of Monday 7th July. Unfortunately due to the road closures along much of our normal evening route, and the likely surrounding traffic congestion, it is necessary to divert all PM services as follows:
