We only employ the best drivers in the business and you will undertake an interview process that will test your abilities, but the basic requirements are: You must hold a PCV licence, have good customer service skills and a good general knowledge of Kent and London.
Specific requirements for each role vary but the basic requirements are; a minimum of 12 months proven telesales experience and will need to be target driven and proactive.
All offers of employment made by The Kings Ferry are subject to a standard or an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check dependent upon the position applied for. We look at any history of criminal convictions carefully. The nature of the conviction will be assessed on a post by post and applicant by applicant basis. Our duty of care to protect vulnerable service users is paramount.
This is dependent upon the post applied for. Typically, when we receive applications they are short listed by the relevant senior manager. If you are successful at this stage, you are invited to an interview, after which, if successful, you are invited to a second interview (for us to get to know your further). If you are successful at the second interview, you are then offered a post within The Kings Ferry, subject to receipt of satisfactory pre-employment checks.
You must have a valid work permit, where required, to work within The Kings Ferry. It is your responsibility to provide evidence of the work permit in line with current Home Office guidelines.
If you are successful at interview, the time required to process an application is dependent upon the receipt of satisfactory pre-employment checks. These include: 2 references (one of which should be from your most recent employer), health/criminal declaration, Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) certificate. Typically, receipt of an enhanced DBS Certificate takes between 6 – 8 weeks. All pre-employment details have to be checked and endorsed by a senior member of personnel.
Applicants are not required to complete a formal English test, however a good level of verbal and written English is required. On another note; in certain roles a good knowledge of other languages is beneficial due to the nature of the business.

Full time permanent positions are typically 37.5 hours per week; part time permanent hours are variable dependent upon the conditions of the post but with a minimum level set at 15 hours per week. Due to the nature of the business some roles require shift work so these values can vary. Flexibility may be required in regards to working hours, according to the needs of the service. Driver hours vary greatly but must comply the Road Transport (Working Time) Regulations 2005 and the EU drivers hour's rules.
We have two dedicated Driver Training Officers who work closely on a one-to-one basis with all our drivers and are qualified to deliver CPC accredited training courses through the Guild of British Coach Operators. We are currently able to offer 7 such courses as well as comprehensive Manual Handling training, Drivers hours & tachograph training, Vehicle reversing & manoeuvring training, Banksman/Signaller training and walk round check/first daily use inspection training.
You will be required to complete a 3 month probation period in which you will be trained on all the basic functionalities of the job, shadow your colleagues to see how it relates to the day to day role and putting everything you have learnt into practice. Once completed , training has been followed up with a programme of monthly one to one coaching sessions designed to give sales staff on-going feedback on their performance and redirect their approach as necessary.
Staff are paid on the 24th of each month (or earlier if this falls on a week-end or bank holiday.)
