Top mark for The Kings Ferry

100% SatisfactionCoach drivers at value commuter coach company The Kings Ferry are celebrating after their services scored top marks for customer satisfaction.

An independent Local Sustainable Transport Fund (LSTF) survey found 100% of customers declared themselves to be either ‘satisfied’ or ‘very satisfied’ with the coach service.

The service links Weston-super-Mare, Portishead and Clevedon to major businesses in North Bristol including Aztec West, Rolls Royce, Royal Mail, Airbus and the Ministry of Defence.

Launched last year in partnership with North Somerset Council, The Kings Ferry’s latest coach commuter service is going from strength to strength having recently clocked up its 15,000th journey and its signature yellow vehicles fast becoming a fixture on the region’s roads.

The news comes as the government today (19 August) announces its Retail Price Index which will result in rail fare increases in January 2015.

The news may encourage more people to consider commuting from Weston-super-Mare to Bristol with The Kings Ferry, which also operates a highly successful commuting operation in Kent that was established thirty years ago.

For The Kings Ferry Managing Director Ian Fraser the convenience and value of coach travel makes it a very attractive choice for commuters.

He said: “The Kings Ferry is the value way for travellers in North Somerset to get to work in North Bristol – even more so in light of today’s news on rail fares but it’s not the only reason people choose us. We continually strive to provide a first-class service to all our customers and we’re really pleased the latest passenger survey indicates our efforts are paying off. I’d like to take this opportunity to say a huge thank you to our customers in North Somerset for choosing us and to our team of drivers who are of course the very wheels of our business.”

All Kings Ferry coaches feature reclining seats, air conditioning, power sockets, drinks machines, TV screens and wireless internet. They are also equipped with real time tracking, allowing commuters to check the location of their service via web and mobile devices.

More details including the timetable and locations of coach stops are available at www.bristolcommute.com

Tour de France

As part of the Tour's three-day visit to Britain, London will welcome this major cycle event on Monday 7th July. The event will have huge numbers of people lining the Capital's streets to see some of the greatest names in cycling competing for the famous yellow jersey.

The third stage of the Tour will start in Cambridge city centre at around midday, before heading into Essex and Greater London before finally reaching Central London.

The cyclists will ride through Leamouth, Poplar, Wapping and Shadwell. Once past the Tower of London the route will take them along the Thames, towards Lower and Upper Thames Streets and Victoria Embankment, before riding past the Houses of Parliament, around St James's Park and finishing on The Mall.

It is anticipated that this event will have a massive impact on traffic flow through Central London and Canary Wharf with the following roads being closed from 10am to 6pm; Victoria Embankment, Lower and Upper Thames Street, Byward Street, Tower Hill and Limehouse Link Tunnel. The following bridges across the Thames will also be closed; Westminster Bridge, Southwark Bridge and Tower Bridge.

We expect that our AM commuter services will be able to complete our normal route in full on the morning of Monday 7th July. Unfortunately due to the road closures along much of our normal evening route, and the likely surrounding traffic congestion, it is necessary to divert all PM services as follows:

100% Satisfaction Survey Results

In an independent survey carried out by LSTF on our commuter customers in North Bristol, The Kings Ferry scored 100% when asked if they were satisfied with the service or not.

The passengers were surveyed on board their commuter coach, on their way to work. After months and weeks of using the new commuter service to North Bristol, the passengers gave glowing feedback on the level of the service provided.

We have now introduced reduced fares and improved timetables based on the results provided from this questionnaire together with one carried out by ourselves focusing on travelling behaviours and stop locations.

The service has made over 13,000 passenger journeys since its launch in November 2013 and the customer base continues to grow.

A total of 49 people, projects and organisations are on the list, across 16 categories covering the whole range of activities involved in the planning, promotion and operation of coach services.

UK Coach Awards chairman Allan Edmondson said, “For the sixth year running, over 200 nominations were submitted for the various award categories, many from customers who've responded to our appeal to tell us about their experience of quality service from operators and front line staff.”

Danny Elford, Commercial Director at The Kings Ferry told us what it meant to the company;

“We’re very proud to have been nominated for this award, especially because the nominations have come from our customers, who are the driving force behind our business. That’s a real boost for the whole team at The Kings Ferry.”

Allan Edmondson commented;

“Our sincere congratulations go to all the finalists in this year’s awards. The judges will have a tough job in selecting the winners from such a strong field.”

“To achieve high standards, coach travel relies on a whole raft of people and organisations to work together to deliver that extra special trip, day out or holiday. We're delighted to hear about best practice in all these areas from the people who really matter, and to recognise and reward the commitment and hard work involved.”

Coach Vs Train

BBC Radio Kent: Commuter Coach Feature

Ben Bhattal, Head of Sales: promoting the benefits of commuting by coach with The Kings Ferry.

A guaranteed seat on board a comfortable air-conditioned coach at around 25% less than the cost of a train and a 96% customer satisfaction rate are just a few reasons why more and more commuters are turning to travelling to work by coach with The Kings Ferry. BBC Radio Kent decided to highlight this fact on their Breakfast show, hosted by John Warnett and Clare McDonnell, by running a feature which pitted coach against train. In a rolling side-by-side comparison of coach vs train into the city, it included regular updates throughout the three hour programme from a reporter on the Kings Ferry coach and Chris Hill from the Alliance of Kent commuters on the train.

“Good morning, on a very quiet commuter coach, it’s absolutely packed. They all have their headphones on… we are just going past the service at Gravesend…I got on about 7/8 minutes ago, lovely and warm, nice comfortable seats, plenty of leg-room and in less than an hour I should be in Canary Wharf, a pretty speedy service…..terrific.”
Phil Harrison – BBC Radio Kent Reporter

The Kings Ferry Head of Sales, Ben Bhattal was on-board and conducted a live interview. The comparison was a good chance to really see how the service stands up against the general perception that it takes longer by coach.

“Peoples general perception is that the coach takes longer, but this service we are currently on is scheduled to arrive in Canary Wharf in just under an hour.”
Ben Bhattal – The Kings Ferry

And it did just that, the commuter coach arrived just under the hour mark, ahead of the train, which had stopped due to unknown problems.

Large increases in rail fares are also contributing to the shift. A typical annual season ticket by train will cost between £3500-£4000, the Kings Ferry commuter prices for a similar route and ticket range from £2060 to £2725.

The Kings Ferry: We have a great operations team who work very hard to inform the drivers of any traffic or issues and help them negotiate the routes; we also have a smartphone app so you can track your coach and avoid any unnecessary waiting…

BBC Radio: So you’re reliable, you’re cheap and efficient, and you can use the bus lanes…

751 - Crown Road Closure

We have received notification from Kent County Council that Crown Road in Sittingbourne will be closed from Thursday 9th January 2014 for two days.

The road will be closed between the junctions of B2006 and High Street (Milton Regis) to enable urgent carriageway repairs to be carried out.

On Thursday 9th January 2014 and Friday 10th January 2014 all of our 751 services will be diverting via Saffron Way and Mill Way.

We will be unable to serve our normal AM and PM bus stops located on North Street, Milton High Street and Crown Road.  We will instead be serving the bus stop on Mill Way located outside the Asda Supermarket and the bus stop on St. Paul’s Street before picking up our normal route at Chalkwell Road.

We will be returning to our normal route from Monday 13th January 2014.
